Water Baptism is the first Step after

3 BAPTISMS in Scripture- Pastor Diane Melograne

How many Baptisms do we see in Scripture?- In scripture we find Three Baptisms describe and many infillings.

Salvation, Water baptism & the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

  •        I.            Salvation Baptized into Jesus

•It’s simple!  When we accept Jesus into our hearts we are Baptized into Jesus.  It is actually Holy Spirit baptizing us into Jesus.

•One thing about Holy Spirit that’s important to remember.  He is a person.

•Holy Spirit has his own identity or individuality

•He is a rational being.

•He is the Third Person of the Trinity, and therefore, is personal.

1 Corinthians 12:13 – For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

Galatians 3:26-27 – You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

  •     II.            Second Baptism: The disciples baptize us in water.

Water Baptism by submersion is simply an illustration of Christ ́s burial and resurrection.

“Christ died for our sins… He was buried… and He rose again.” – I Cor. 15:3-4“For when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ.” – Col. 2:12

  • Water Baptism illustrates my new life as a Christian.
  • “When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a brand new person inside. The old life has passed away and a new life has begun!” – 2 Cor. 5:17
  • “By our baptism then, we were buried with Him and shared His death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead… so also we may live a new life!” – Rom. 6:4
  • Baptism doesn’t make you a believer; it shows that you already believe. Baptism does not “save” you; only your faith in Christ does that
  • Baptism is like a wedding ring, it ́s the outward symbol of the commitment you make in your heart.
  • “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith… it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” – Ephesians 2:8,9

•Jesus commanded us to be baptized in water as a sign of our true salvation.

•You see the practice of water baptism or water cleansing was practiced by John the Baptist

•However, after His Resurrection and before His Ascension into heaven Jesus’ commanded us to be Water Baptized after conversion. Not as a form of “sin cleansing”, but as a demonstration of “New Life in Christ.”

Ephesians 2:8 – For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

Romans 6:3–4 – Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

I’m not sure why so many people today seem to wait for some type of sanctification process or believe that Water Baptism is a commitment that they are not ready to take!

Water Baptism is simply the first step after Salvation in your Christian walk.  It’s simply choosing Jesus Christ over satan, and that should be a no-brainer choice.

III.     Third Baptism: Jesus baptizes us in the Holy Spirit.

In Matthew 3:11 John the Baptist said, “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. This is referenced in all four gospels- Mark 1:8, Luke 3:1, John 1:33

As Jesus was being taken up into heaven His last command was to wait in Jerusalem until they receive the power from on high, which is Holy Spirit Baptism.

•Acts 2: 1-4 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

IV. What does the baptism of the Holy Spirit look like?

Ephesians 5:18 – Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

At the first infilling of Holy Spirit, the disciples were actually accused of being drunk.  Peter stood up and said; .

Acts 2:15-17These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet

Joel: 17 “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.

God didn’t say the Baptism in Holy Spirit was only for a few people.  He said it was for all people.

V. God designed you to live a Spirit empowered life.

1 Corinthians 14:1 – Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts…

Hebrews 11:6 – And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

obeying Jesus in Water baptism

Water Baptism is a natural occurrence  and the next step after Salvation. Baptisms will take place during our 10:30 Sunday service indoors, at other special times and outdoor events

At the time of your baptism, you will have the opportunity to share a brief live testimony on why you have chosen to follow Jesus and how He has changed your live.

Jesus said, "I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents" (Luke 15:10).

And we rejoice and celebrate with you after each Baptism Service.
